North American Reunion
Canadian Edition 2009
August 1-2, 2009
Brantford, ON, Canada
Hosts: Philsamma and George Padamadan
WOW What a reunion. This had everything. The honeymooners had an evening in Niagara Falls on Friday night (July 31). A walk to the Grand River to explore the scenic beauty and the park; a nearly 6 hour raft expedition down the Grand River from Paris to Brantford with 2 stops where we explored an old gypsum mine and went for a 2 mile hike up steep embankment of the river to enjoy the breathtaking view from the zenith. The waters of the river danced to the tune, "thi thi thara thi thi thei.." For a day the Grand River transformed into Vembanad kayal. The tourists and natives who were going by canoes and kayaks stopped by to ask where we are from. They obviously haven't seen anything like a KMC 1973 get together! [ See the photos and slide show ]
Later we inaugurated the pride of the batch - the new, completely rebuilt and improved website - kmc1973.com The inauguration provides us the bragging rights to the title of the first batch ever to have our own URL on the internet and having a website that is professionally designed and hosted. It was also the day of George's 60th birthday and George and Philsamma's 30th wedding anniversary. A poem specifically composed for the day was read. A skit humorously depicting the "pennu kanal" - George meeting Philsamma was enacted with classic Malayalam tunes and songs composed for the occasion. Later, we all witnessed the first kiss of the bridegroom and bride (It took 30 years to do it!)
We had international guests who joined Ike and Jaya to present a group song. Rosely, wife of Philsamma's nephew enchanted everyone with a devotional song. Shila also sung for the first time, although during the hustle and bustle of things, no one seems to notice. Savio and Annie enacted an old Malayalam song. Annie demonstrated that she can shake her butts when she wants to! (She was also smart to finish her dancing when Ike ran and fetched his movie camera.)
We also had our own version of "not so newly wed" game. Meena decided to leave her answers blank so as not to reveal their "inner secrets." Then she was wondering why her answers did not match those of Money. We also discovered that, at least for two people there, the most intelligent person in the universe are their wives. What is more interesting is that the wives knew about it and predicted the response accurately!
Philsamma gave an emotional speech recalling how she recognized the value of having friends when she had gone through turbulence in life. Jolly, as usual, impressed everyone with his ability to communicate. We also learned that patients actually make appointments to see him, not to talk about their physical ailments, but about their emotional and spiritual issues. He would have made a great psychiatrist.
